Overview of CAT 2023 detailed exam review
The conducting body was IIM Lucknow the previous year. The exam came with the same marking scheme, which was: +3/-1 for MCQs, and +3/0 for non-MCQs.
It was in many ways like 2022, but the difficulty level increased marginally. This is one reason why the cut-offs dropped this year. In the slots, VARC seemed similar, but students found DILR to be tough to attempt in the first two slots. It was easier to attempt the 3rd slot. The algebra questions in the Quant section became a question mark for many candidates. This also contributed to several aspirants dropping down.
CAT 2023 Exam Analysis
Four RC passages of medium length (350-450 words) of 4 questions each. The topics were:
- Original affluent society essay: questions based on the main point from the essay and from an author perspective.
- Postcolonial literature
- Indian Ocean
- Work culture
The passages were easy to read. However, the questions were tricky and required time to grasp.
There were a total of 4 TITA questions. There were no TITA questions in RC. Based on our CAT analysis, an overall attempt of 15-19 with high accuracy will fetch 99%ile.

Expected CAT pattern in 2024
