ABBS Centre for Research and Innovation (ACRI) is an initiative taken to emphasize on research having relevance to Industry and Society. It started its operations in the year 2009 and has a separate head, ably assisted by a team of experienced professionals. At present, this centre is headed by Dr.C.Sengottuvelu, Professor, ABBS.

Profile of Head (Research & Innovation)

Dr. Sengottuvelu is Professor in Operations & SCM Area at ABBS. His PhD is from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh in Supply Chain Management Area. He is having over 30 years of experience including 20 years in the industry (Worked for BEL Bangalore & Chennai Units and HAL Corporate Office, Bengaluru). His areas of interest are operations management and supply chains performance measurements, supply chain modeling, supply chain integration and collaboration. 

He is a Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) by Institute for Supply Management USA, Atlanta. He received the Government of India Ministry of Defence R& D Award for Best Design Efforts for the year 2003-04.  He has published more than 50 research papers in both National and International journals of repute. He has conducted FDPs under the sponsorship of AICTE. He has organized conferences / workshops under the sponsorship of ICSSR and Consultancy Development Centre (CDC), DSIR, Govt. of India. He has organized number of MDPs to the Managers of Nitta Gelatin India Ltd, and Indian Oil Corporation Dealers in Kerala. He is also a recognized doctoral supervisor for two universities. Three research scholars have already been awarded with doctoral degrees under his guidance and three more are ongoing.

ABBS management has constituted two committees i.e. Research Advisory Committee and Research Working Committee to strengthen and oversee the activities of ACRI. The role of research advisory committee is to identify the trust areas and emerging areas for research activities. This committee is also providing guidelines to carry out the research activities and innovative practices to the research working committee for implementation.

The centre undertakes research studies, market surveys, feasibility studies, management consultancy and human resource development and training for corporate and academia.

Objectives of the ACRI 

  1. To facilitate, guide and collaborate with faculty members to publish research papers in UGC, Scopus Indexed, Web of Science Indexed and ABDC Listed Journals.
  2. To convert students project reports into research papers / case study and publishing in Journals.
  3. To explore the possibility of offering consultancy services to industry in respect of conducting market surveys, feasibility study, preparation of business plan, and conducting MDPs / Short Term Training Progarmmes (STTPs).
  4. To facilitate to write proposals to seek fund from Govt. and Private Agencies.
  5. To foster the research culture in the campus. 
  6. To coordinate with Bangalore University regarding ‘Research Centre’ activities leading to Ph.D.

  • Rural Lighting in India through Solar Home Systems- Assessment & Options carried out for National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS). 
  • Tribal Education and Technology Adoption in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu- An Empirical Study on Community Development (IMPRESS Scheme) done for ICSSR, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.
  • Study on Emerging need of Hydro Power for the State of Karnataka conducted for Paschim Hydro Energy Pvt. Ltd.

  • ATAL FDP on Technology Management conducted from 14-12-2020 to 18-12-2020 (5 days).
  • ATAL FDP on Blockchain Technology and AI in Service Sectors (Elementary) conducted from 20-09-2021 to 24-09-2021 (5 days).
  • ATAL FDP on Blockchain Technology and AI in Service Sectors (Advanced) conducted from 15-11-2021 to 19-11-2021 (5 days).
  • Other FDPs on NEP-2020, Analytics using R, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Case Writing Analysis, Entrepreneurs Conclave, and Changing Role of HR-New Perspectives were also organized in these five years.

  • Indian Plywood Industries Research & Training Institute (IPIRTI), Autonomous body of the Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change, Govt. of India – Short Term Technical Training (STTPs) was offered every year since 2017. The IPIRTI gives consultancy charges of Rs. 1,94,680/= every year to ABBS
